Mudrooms/Drop Zones

1/9/2018

Having a designated space to drop things when you enter and to grab things when you go is one of the most functional (and necessary) things you can have in your home! I don't know about you guys, but I NEED a space to store ALL OF THE THINGS that my tiny humans have - from backpacks and lunchboxes, to jackets and sports gear, having a space to keep all of these things is super helpful in keeping a home organized. While many new construction homes have a mudroom, a space designed specifically to be a drop zone, having an extra room isn't necessary. Key to creating a drop zone area that is functional and that will actually be used, is the drop zone's proximity to the door you enter and exit most frequently. In all of the houses that we've lived in, we've entered through the garage door. Having an area right next to it where we can drop our things BEFORE we have the opportunity to set them anywhere else is crucial.

Here are a few things to consider as you start to plan/create your drop zone area:
  1. Where is the best location of your drop zone?
  2. What do you plan to keep in your drop zone?
  3. How much storage do you need?

Pinterest is FULL of tons of incredible drop zone ideas - whether you're working with one wall, or an entire room, your guaranteed to find some inspiration.
Below are some of my favorite mudrooms/drop zones.

Maggie has been a tremendous help to me! We are building a new house and I was feeling very overwhelmed with all the design decisions. She made it much more manageable for me. Maggie is very easy to work with and knows her stuff! I can’t wait to see the finished product.

As a Real Estate Agent, one of my jobs is to help clients get their homes ready to sell. Maggie does an incredible job of getting a home in the best shape possible to sell. She has also helped clients of mine redesign their home after purchasing. Maggie is professional and knowledgeable. You will not go wrong using her for any of your home needs!

Maggie is the best!!! I found her on FaceBook. I knew from her FB posts that she was the designer for me. She will work with what you have and help add other pieces. I love how she can find budget friendly options from different places and pull it all together.
Maggie has great response time. Once she has set up a design board, I often email or text her pictures about options I’ve come across as well. Then, she will help you decide on things and pull the look you want together. I love having her an unbiased sounding board. So far, she has helped me with master bedroom, kitchen, dining, living rooms and office. I am so pleased with her work.
